So, if I'm reading this right. There is a limit to whom can go to the Co summer hang?

If that's the case than I may have to pick another time to do some Colorado hanging.

    Have a blast everyone!

Don't give up on us yet Fronkey.

I believe food has obtained a wilderness permit for the guys that have already committed to the wilderness hike/hang following the Branard Lake Hang via PMing him.
Colorado Hangs that food and I organize always have 2 or 3 parts to them.

Food correct me if I am wrong, but I think additional permits can be applied for although because this is a Wilderness area group sizes are limited to 7 or 12.
Which means there might be 2 or more groups taking different trails.

I've refrained from my usual posting of tons of pictures because this place is not well known and the jewel of the Colorado Back Country.

National advertizing on a forum might get my house burned down. But I'll take that risk if you'll keep us in mind. So here's just one.

There is no limit on the hang or hike. Everyone will be together on the hang on Friday and Saturday night. On the hike part we will have to split into separate groups. OutandBack has a place that will accomdate up to 20 hangers for fishing. I have a 7 person permit for counterclockwise. We need to find someone that will commit to the hike to pull a 7 person permit for clockwise. There are lots of places to hike in Colorado with no limit. Everyone that comes can hang and hike.

    Ok cool.

I really want to go to Colorado for some hanging and check out some of your great wilderness.

Do you recommend this be the one to go to or should I make a thread for a different hang?

I don't know much about the places to hike in Co. But, I would like to see some awesome views and hopefully some wildlife too.

    hang then hike

The location of the hang has not yet been determined. OutandBack and I are scouting this weekend. The hang will be in National Forest campgrounds with firerings, toilets and picnic tables. The hang will be Friday and Saturday night.

The hike will be broken up into groups. I think OutandBack is going to take the fishing group to the place where he took the pictures of the moose.

I already have a permit for 7 people to do the north loop in Indian Peaks for 3 nights beginning Sunday night. I hope someone steps forward to apply for an additional permit.

The capital W Wilderness has the problem of limited group sizes.

The views on the north loop are spectacular.

Wildlife viewing is best where wildlife comes into regualar contact with humans. The wildlife on the north loop are pretty shy.

In 40 years of hiking in Colorado I have only seen two mountain lions. My former business partner that lived in the foothills used to see mountain lions in his yard often. His dog had to be kept in a mountain lion proof run.

For my part, of part 2, of the Colorado Summer Hang.
    Man that's a mouth full.

The back country hang and flyfishing group will be moving out of the Branard Lake campground Sunday morning and driving about 5 miles SE.

We'll base camp at lefthand res. Catching the morning and evening hatch off the lake.
During the day we'll use day packs and hunt for brookies in the streams between all the lakes in the area.
    There's ~10 lakes.

Here are some picts of Lefthand. Camping is free in this National Forest.

    Hi Ferret,
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I really hope you can join us.

I am so sore. food and I went up and did a little scouting.
33F degrees with 35 mph wind.
We did about 6.5 miles, 1/3 of that bush-wacking with snowshoes
on to stay out of the wind.

The campground had 4' of snow so all the car camp # markers were covered.
We'll have to go back in early summer to get recommended camp spot numbers for reservations.

I'll get a few picks up tomorrow. Left my camera in the car and I am not moving from this chair until bed time. haha

The scouting trip to get an idea of which car camping site numbers we need to reserve for Part 1 of the Colorado Summer Hang kind of failed.
THere was ~4 foot of snow covering the road and we could barely see the tops of the picnic tables. No site number post were visible.

a few picts here. With 35 mph sustained winds and air temp of 33 F I did not take many pictures.
