It's just possible I might join in, assuming ground dwellers are welcome. I'm considering going to a hammock next spring, if all works out for me, so this could be educational ... :-) I don't have any dates for fall trips firmed up, so will ride with whatever you folks decide.

if we do end up on the SHT, the section above Grand Marais looks most attractive to me.

I like to get away from civilization when I get out.

I spent a little time in the Porcupine Mountains this summer too.
It's a beautiful park. And very quiet. Plenty of trails and trees. And backcountry camping is welcome.

It looks like the 14-16 may be our winner.

Now we should think about where we are going to have it. I like the idea of having it on the SHT. There are plenty of places to choose from and it's easy enough to car pool for those who need it. Plus, it would be really awesome to see the fall colors up there over some of the high cliffs.

Yes grounders are welcome, but if you'd like to hang [I] can set you up with a rig.

I would love to hang! And that time of the year, no skeeters to worry about either. I have a couple different foam pads (3/8 and 5/8), 3 different mummy bag options (can we kludge one for an underquilt if needed?) stakes, rope, even a couple different poly tarps, and a ridiculously large pack to carry bulky, light items.

I really hope I can schedule this...

addendum: And I promise no pipes or cigars near the gear. :-) (Actually I usually don't bring a pipe backpacking anyway, and some group hikes non-smoking is preferred...)

Allright, so it's safe to say that the weekend of October 14-16 is the dates for the fall hang. Looking forward to some fall colors and NO BUGS for this one!

So should another poll be created to say where this thing is going to happen
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.
