When I have taken apart a sleeping bag you never quite get all the down out of the baffles. I need to cut them off as i go and throw them away. Just the act of cutting the sleeping bag open is a mess. One time it looked like I was killing chickens but it vacuums up easily enough. Actually I have never used bulk bought down. I will be very soon. There is a good possibility that I will make a mess of that too.

HF member andersj made a quilt using the down from a pillow, so it can be done. You can see pics of the process here. It looks like the pillow he has pictured is much like the one for sale on Ebay. I always thought pillows were mostly feathers.

The "100% down" statement in the Ebay listing makes me a little skeptical. Most of the down that I have seen for sale, even high quality stuff, is like 90-95% down and the other 5-10% is feathers.

    Excellent

    Excellent visual.
I couldn't read it but it seemed he was using masking tape.
One thing I might change is using double sided tape to hold the netting to the cover when sewing the baffles.

    Very cool idea!

I think I'd go to Penney's and purchase a down pillow.
That way if you open it up and it has feathers you can return it.
