    Winter Quilt

I'm trying to choose between the Jacks R Better Old Rag or the Winter Incubator from hammock gear. Any advise? I have a SS from HH for the fall and spring but really want to stay warm on those 20 degree nights this winter. the SS did not cut it last winter. Thanks.

    Greetings

I take it you are going to be using the Old Rag Mountain in its underquilt configuration since you are comparing it with the Winter Incubator.

I don't have either, so I am solely going by the published specs on each manufacturers website. Given these 2 choices I personally would go with the Winter Incubator for the following reasons.

    1) It has a lower temperature rating - 0F vs 10-15F
    2) It uses 900 FP down as standard
    3) It is differentially cut so it won't compress the down no matter how tight you hang it.
    4) The baffles run end to end vs side to side on the ORM, so the down won't all settle to the bottom leaving cold spots on your side.
    5) It costs less

    Good luck with your choice.

    Cheers

The Old Rag Mountain gives you the flexibility to use it as a top or under quilt.

The Winter Incubator is differentially cut, so should be less fussy in terms of setup.

If the goal is just to get an UQ, I'd go with the Winter Incubator.

there both very good quilt and you can't go wrong with either...
the HG winter Incubator like others have said is only a UQ i like the way Adam cuts his UQ's there a real nice fit on just about any hammock i have ever seen them on i had one of the originals and even then they were very high quailty

as for the JRB Old Rag Mountain what can you say i feel the JRB quilts are the most versatile quilts on the market it can be used as either a TQ or a UQ .. and
there is no wait on JRB quilts they are always in stock and ship fast...

Both Adam and the Jacks are great guys and are great to deal with they will go out of there way to make you a happy hanger

it all comes down to needs and wants... and what best fits your needs
i say flip a coin LOL
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

    Thanks

All the advise was very helpful. I already have a JRB overquilt so this will just be used as an underquilt. I think I'm leaning towards the incubator but I think either would be great. I really appreciate the help. I'm trying to get ready for winter before winter is here this year

There really is no wrong choice here at all. Both are great products made by great guys and active forum members.
