I made one and tested it this weekend in some pretty nasty weather. worked very well except a few drops from peak of ridge. Think maybe I "softened" it too much because it is a little fuzzy there. going to test some more and also may see if Kiwi or paint helps. Any thoughts?
I use an 8x10 plain white Tyvek sheet I bought from materials concepts for $20. I like the white "interior" since it makes the living space so much brighter at mighty with a headlamp or lantern. I had good luck with the "button" tieouts, but have been experimenting with Cheap*******'s screw on attachment points. I repurposed the screw-caps from milk and OJ cartons and they seem to work well. A small hole drilled in the center and a stopper knotted loop of utility cord makes a good attachment point. Place the threaded male section under the tarp and screw the cap on--durable tieout. I would suggest not using the caps from 2-liter or other Coke-type soda bottles. They have sharp threads which may damage the Tyvek.
I didn't wash mine, but spent some time crumpling the sheet while watching TV. It's not noisy, but still won't compress well. On the plus side, the bulk makes it seem a lot lighter!

I was on a job site back when i worked construction. A representative from the lumber yard was there, and he said that we had to make sure the logo was out on the building. He claimed that it would let moisture out of the dwelling but not in, if installed properly. I didn't believe him. It just happened that this job was on the beach, so we took two scraps and crammed them down into the beach grass, one face up the other face down, each forming somewhat of a bowl. Then I took my water jug and poured water into each of them. you can believe what you want, but after break the one that was face up was still holding water, and the one that was face down was empty. I'm a believer. If I were to make a tarp out of tyvek, I would put the logos up.

Fireline
Here's a place that sells it for $2.25/ft in 9' widths.

Actually, I just checked ebay, and the prices there make the $2.25 seem a bit high.
