i have an eno with what looks like its got a thread that pulled into a wad, and i called ENO about it and they said 2 things: need a proof of purchase, will exchange if it tears. to be honest, i was not impressed with their service, i emailed twice and called 3 times, leaving messages each time and got someone on the third. he didnt offer a lot of help at all, and was very short with the whole thing.

Well I think it's obvious what happened here. Florida State Park system's non-hammock stance has become so stringent that they are now sending ninjas around to cut people out of their hammocks in the middle of the night.

But yeah, sounds like you got a defective one, certainly contact Grand Trunk about that.

i post this not in disagreement with what members are saying about angles, but to point out an observation.

after working on cars as i like to do, an old adage comes to mind; the maker recommends certain parts and methods of operation for a reason. having bmw's really taught me this, as the cars sportier versions are favorites of the modding crowd.

so what does this have to do with hammocks?

i've seen several youtube videos that insist on a very tight lie. i'm speaking specifically of dd hammocks. it seems the hammocks are designed to be strung that way.

as i look at the debate the sag has more to do with the user desiring a diagonal lay as the first consideration. a tight hang means an inline lay.

i may be wrong but i think i'm right. what i'm saying is, i'd follow the instructions. these guys are probably right, however, with the hammock you had.

    just an observation.....

I own two Ultralight hammocks from Grand Trunk. The one I use most often is now about 5+ years old and is holding up great. I've purchased more than a dozen of these hammocks for family and friends too, without a problem.

The ones I get are all the same: dark green.

The fabric, I believe, is polyester, non-ripstop.

What I love about the polyester fabric is that it doesn't stretch and I get a flatter lay.

I can only guess that the fabric was faulty, made problematic by a tighter hang. It's hard to fault the hang too much because most manufacturers under-rate the system for safety reasons. I wonder if there was something else that may have punctured the fabric? Anything from below? Something worn?

Grand Trunk folks are great to work with, so take advantage of their offer.

Unless the hammock is made of hi-zoot cuben and hung with only short lengths of hi-test and well-worked Dyneema / Spectra or Vectran, (or a petite climbs into a WBBB DL1.7) the whole system stretches enough with weight in it that only if someone else gets in it for you does your observation of a 30 degree hang approximate what it will become after it is loaded.

I'm pretty sure that must be what happened to me. Thanks for the insight. Darn ninjas...

As to the clothing question, I had pants with velcro pocket flaps. They were new, and a little scratchy, but I can't imagine it was enough to cause this.

Thanks again for all the insight. I'll definitely be better prepared for next time.
