    Unhappy Here I go again

Hello Michael is my name, you can call me anything as long as you have a smile on your face. I tried hammock camping a few years ago and had a bad time of it. Had just bought a HH Explorer and was excited to try it out. Weather was great. Set up camp and settled in. Did not sleep a wink. Of course it was not the fault of the equipment but my own. So now, after giving hammock to my son with a few obscene adjectives a year ago, I have decided to start over, I will be purchasing new equipment and will give it another go. Any advice on equipment and how to's will be welcome. I have watched Shug Emery's youtube clips and have a better idea of what went wrong. Thank you for your attention.

Well, one bit of advice is that gear is like trucks. Fords and Cheys and Toyotas and etc all do the same job pretty much the same way, no matter what zealots say. Same for hammock hanging suspension systems and etc. Plus, as with hiking boots, no one can tell you which will fit your particular feet the best. They can make recommendations, but you simple have to decide for yourself.

Hopefully, this doesn't sound like no advice at all. It's just advice not to lose sight of the forest by fixating on the trees. (good hammocking adage, I supose)

You didn't say why, if you know, you were unhappy last time?

Perhaps the best advice might be to come up to Neo's annual fall hammock hang at Meriwether Lewis National Monument and campground on the Natchez Trace the weekend of Oct. 14-16. You can see all sorts of hammocks, tarps, suspension systems, yak with experienced and novice hammockers, AND have a great time.

    Might of been the kilt . . . ya know . . . bunching up and all . . .

It would account for the bad time . . .

Been there, dun that, came here, doing it again only better. A hammock is a terrible thing to waste. We are both on the path of enlightenment. May we both find true happiness.

My advice is to keep at it. It can take some time and trial and error to find what works for you. On the other hand, you can get a certain hammock and be comfortable right away. This place is a great resource so feel free to ask if you have any problems. Good luck.

Did the same thing. HH bought about 6 years ago, slept comfy but cold. Pad went everywhere, rainfly too small and got wet. Gave it away.

Last year I found this site, bought another hammock, watched the videos, went to a MAHHA, slept many a comfy, warm, dry night ever since!

Welcome aboard from Florida Mike. Best buddy in the navy lives in Meridan.Spent a week with him a few years back on our way to the Dakotas. Pretty country around there. Enjoy the fun.
