Marlin Spike Hitch Whoopie Kit question

I just got a package of strange-looking things....

I think it's supposed to be assembled like this, but got a bit concerned about the much thinner sling wearing the hammock (DD Frontline)? Or should I just stop worrying? The original straps can be seen to the right in the top photo.

This kit disappared from the AHE site after the sale, so I don't have any pictures as guideline.

The whoopie picture looks OK as far as I can tell. The marlin picture doesn't look right to me. Here is a youtube video on tying a marlin spike hitch.

Looks perfect. Just be sure your on the knot of the hitch and not on the toggle.

it looks as though you have inserted the adjustable end of the whoopie sling through the channel of your hammock. that will severely limit the adjust ability of the whoopie sling.
the easiest way (IMO) would be to leave your original loops in the channel and larks head the non-adjustable end of the whoopie around your hammock, so that it cinches the hammock behind the knot made by the channel "wad".
or run the non-adjustable end through your end channel.

i can't see your marlin very well but it looks to be a girth knot and that will not serve you well.

it's cool though. i kinda did the same thing too.

    Thanks.

Sling over knot, not over toggle. Noted.
The small eyelet on the sling (adjustable end) is at the tree end. I thought about that since you have to adjust the sling in the hammock channel when adjusting length, but the other way around seemed more akward.

Thanks for the video, maybe I had turned the webbing over when doing the first loop.

The small eyelet should actually be attached to the hammock. The big loop is what adjusts around the knot of the marlin spike. Here's a couple of videos showing how to attach the slings to your hammock and the to the marlin spike.

I hope that helps. Enjoy your Whoops!

    Hi Oskar
The thinner dyneema won't wear your hammock. I have added this to my DD Travel hammock and its a huge advantage. Set up is sooooo quick. If you use the snakeskins with the hammock too it is really practical.
I had virtualy the same whoopies as you. I just looped the small non adjustable end through the gathered end of the hammock. The adjustable end then MSH'd to the tree strap. Works a dream.
The best bit is that the non stretch amsteel lets you set the hammock height just as you want it. No stretch afterwards so you end up with your bum on the floor. The stock webbing is rubbish.
Enjoy your hammock IMHO they are an excellent piece of kit.
    cheers
    Gareth

    Thanks, guys!

I was just outside and did a practice setup/teardown before sunset (now it's dark here). Quicker, easier and lighter.

Did you swap the sling around to the way you had it? Just checking because as others have said, the sling looks backwards in the pictures.

Yes, I changed the sling. The fixed eyelet at the hammock end.
