Hello from New Smyrna Beach, Florida - Noob Hennessy Hyperlite

    Hello,
My name is Scott and I live in New Smyrna Beach, FL which is just south of Daytona Beach. I am 33 years old Disabled American Veteran with a back injury. When I thru-hiked the AT in 2001, I stumbled upon the concept of Hammocks in the back country and thought that one day I would integrate a hanging system into my style of hiking. I recently picked up a Hennessy Hyperlite at a bargain. I am defiantly looking to upgrade the suspension to a more "adventure racer" style for quick and easy set up break down. Thinking of rap rings is the way to go. At the time of this posting I have yet to sleep in it. In the back of my mind I am considering another thru-hike...Maybe the Florida trail...dunno. I look forward to learning lot from you all.

Welcome aboard from Lakeland Florida, Scott. Get started quick but take your time and get it right. Jan 13-16 will be the 2nd Annual Florida Hang. Missed it myself last year but it promises to be grand. Tried to link to the thread but was having some trouble. The thread is in trip planning. look forward to maybe seeing you. Thank you for you service, from an old sailor.

Hey Scott, First let me say thanks for your service and sacrificing for our freedoms. Second, welcome to the group! My uncle has a place in Daytona. I've spent some time in Daytona and still stay in touch with some of the fellas down there.

Welcome! Glad to hear of another Floridian coming to the forums.

Here're the links to the 2nd Annual Hang, mentioned by olddog above:

    The planning thread.

    The attendee list.

    Hope to see you there.

As far as the suspension goes, I also own a HH (mine's the Explorer model, but the suspension shouldn't be different if I understand the models' features correctly). I've switched over to the JRB tri-glides. They're simple and easy to set up. Much easier than the standard HH suspension knot, though I wouldn't want to use them with gloves on. As long as you're camping down here in FL, I shouldn't think that'd be a problem, though.

Let me know if you have any questions about that.

If you've not tried that hammock yet, you might be in for a very pleasant surprise with the extra support it'll give your back- I hope so, you lads deserve the best comfort for what you've given us =) A big warm welcome from England!
