I'm sure other folks have had good luck with it (SilNet), but I thought it was a royal pia. YMMV and all that...

Maybe it would work fine on smaller jobs.

I stopped by Advance Auto and picked up a tube of the Permatex Flowable Silicone. I used it to seal my JRB 11x10. It's very nice stuff. It has no smell and it's not tacky when it dries like diluted silicone. Goes on really smooth. Highly recommended if you don't want to use the spray. Much better than Silnet.

This "seams" (ba-dump-bum! ) like a question I should know the answer to, but here goes:

Can I use the Permatex on non-silicone coated fabrics? I am not sure as to what the coating is on the tarps I have made from dollar bin waterproof fabric. One is proabably sil, and the other I am not sure, but it reminds me of plastic bedsheets only perhaps thinner.

Yep, I sealed up my green JRB 11x10 with this stuff. I very much like that it isn't tacky when dried. A bit too thick, but spreads easily enough when pushed around a bit with the nozzle of the tube. I'm going with this on future tarp seals.

I put a very small hole in the end of the applicator tip (burned the hole with a needle) and cut the tip at an angle. The angled tip allowed me to get under the "flap" of the flat felled seam and was also great because it would make a really nice bead of sealer right where I wanted it. The only complaint I have is that I hate the metal tube the sealer comes in because it continues to dispense sealer even after I have stopped squeezing the tube.

I just got done using the Permatex Flowable Silicone on my Tom claytor tarp. It went on nice, with a little help of my finger. Kind of thick though, maybe I put it on to thick but I did not want any leaks! I did notice that even when dry is was a little sticky/tacky so I applied some baby powder on the silicone. MAN does that make it slick. Now I have to go test it. I guess that gives me a excuse to go do a section of the FLT today. I will see you all on Monday!

Can anyone answer this for me?

My guess is no. My guess is it is deigned only for sil nylon products, but it is possible it might work with other fabrics any way. IOW, I can't answer your question!

We should know soon when Kirkman gets to test his Claytor tarp!

I used the JRB Hammock Hut at the RRG with only the spray sealer to seam seal everything. It started raining Friday night and rained until early Saturday morning. No leaks at all.
