I like thekalimist's stand, painted a cool color could blend with dorm decor. Plus the couch allows for those nights when you might "pass out" rather than "go to bed", or if you ain't solo.

Here's an alternative that Turtlelady came up with.

Check out Isheian's version (around post #303), and Olddog's version (post #320). IMO, Olddog's implementation really makes the idea easy to implement:

I had a roommate/suitmate my semester of school that hung his hammock in the bunkbed stand thing. Perhaps that's an option. He was a large guy, too, and had no problems.

As a former RA, the removal of furniture from your dorm room I think is generally frowned upon. I had residents who would send their stock furniture home, to a friend's, etc. I personally couldn't have cared less as long as it turned up unharmed at the end of the year, but the university considered it theft of school property and was unhappy. So just a warning about that...

my RA is pretty chill.. he told me that as long as there was no visible damage to drilling holes in the wall at the end of the semester that it was all good.

Good deal. I just didn't want you to end up with a fine or something else stupid.

coming from a current 2nd year RA here at WCU, I would say move the furniture out of the way, drill the holes, hang the hammock, then for christmas break room inspections and end of the year room inspections, just take the hammock down and put the furniture (bunk bed) back to cover the holes, then putty the hell out of them at the end of year so you arent charged

Or if you're cheap and have no scruples and the wall is white you can fill it in with toothpaste to look filled in. :X

My friend did that, but he used the bunk frame to hand the hammock on.

+1 on toothpaste hole patches. Works like a charm and makes the wall smell good to boot!! Did this pretty much every end of year in my college days.

Try this out if you're brave. I've got mine hanging under the loft in my dorm, but if you were moving your loft out for more room...

Anyways it would take some smart planning to get this to work, and a lot of duct tape.
