    Hiked quinault

went out to my local hiking ground and hiked 8 miles. My pack weight was 22lbs and it was just a over nighter but it was probly one of the most hardest hikes i have ever went on. Thr reason is i hiked that bad boy bare foot and i gotta tell ya my dogs were yelping. I set up my hammock for the first time and i slep threw the night until 3 in the moring, my butt was frozen solid. i thought i would of been fine with the sleeping bag but not enough insolation. i am thinking about buying a poncho liner.

The 3AM frozen butt and lower back is no fun at all! Been there and I feel your pain! Get yourself a really good under quilt. JRB have a pretty good poncho weather shield that I don’t often leave home without (they’ve got pretty **** good quilts too).

Have a look around the Bottom Insulation section of Hammock Forums.

Is there a masochist hiker club out there on the coast? Did you whip yourself with a vine maple switch as you went down the trail too? OUCH!!!

Yeah, even some thrift store trail runners would be better than barefoot. The guys who are using some of the new Vibram Five Fingers and other minimalist running shoes with a pack load on trails are NUTS, IMHO. To each his own, I guess.

Get a 26" wide CCF pad at Big 5 or Wally World until you get the UQ or other insulation figured out. CCF pads aren't perfect, but they beat FBS at 3AM, that's for darn sure!

Photos? How far in did you go? How was the trail?
