    North Florida Newbie

    Hello Hangers!

New hammocker here in the Gainesville area. Been camping most of my life, with and without the BSA, hence the nickname, and had been looking at getting off the ground for a couple of years. My back has been begging me to do something different, and the camp cot that makes camping tolerable these days is so against my normal camping ethos (pack it on your back and go away from the paved roads) that it makes me nuts.

Pulled the trigger on the Hennessy Explorer Deluxe Zip with the Typhoon fly and the 4 season system - nice rig once I got it set. First camp out is this weekend - OA ordeal! Will let you all know how it runs out, and of course, I plan to tweak things some.

Happy to be here, love what I've seen so far, and don't ever plan to go back to the ground if I can help it.

Lots of hikes in the future planned - Baden Powell style sleeping for me from here on out!

    YIS,

    Ted

    Welcome from right next door!

    You'll like it here.

There's the Second Annual Florida Hang coming up in January. The sign-up thread is here.

In addition, though it might be short notice, there's a NE Florida hang coming up the second weekend of October.

Hope to see you out there.

    Welcome Ted!

In case you haven't heard yet, the 2nd Annual Florida Hang is going to be MLK weekend in Ocala National Forest. It's shaping up to be quite the shindig.

You will find tons of knowledgeable information here...well maybe not from me..but others.

Welcome aboard from Florida. Start planning to be at the 2nd Annual Florida Hang, looks to be a big time.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Man. January might be possible, though working call schedule around Scout campouts and another outing gets tricky. Possible, but tricky. October 7th weekend belongs to the ICU, though. Sad, would love to go hang in Jax with y'all. Will make it happen soon!

Well, feel free to let me know any time you want to go out. My schedule's pretty set, too; I work Tue-Sat evenings, so it might be easier to do a Sun-Mon sometime depending on your schedule. Mom worked in geriatrics (still does, actually) for a good long while, and being on call is always an adventure.

Hope things go well with your first hang!
