    HELP with Strap/Sling Idea

Thanks in advance for the forecoming fountain of wisdom....here goes

This is what I am thinking...I have an ENO DN which I am redoing the suspension on. One of the stock biners has already stretched somewhat (yh Im a big feller) and we all know Slapstraps are not good. I have since gone to whoopies and marlinspike set up. I am torn on which way that I want to setup. I have been just hooking my whoopies to the stock biners and using DIY tree straps and MS/toggle. I really want to just thread my whoopies thru the hammock and remove the stock cord. but will my weight be a factor on the hammock material... I have considered threading a climbing biner thru the hammock but I would love to get rid of the bulk of that too.

I have thought that I can completely do away with any biners of dutch clips with this method....

Is there anything wrong with just tying a fig8 loop in one end my tree strap and then just wrapping that roun the tree and feeding the other end thru the strap elimnating the need for any metal except for the toggle for the MS of course? anybody using this method? Pro and Cons?

    thanks

No problems just feeding the fixed eye of the whoopie sling through the end channels of your hammock and girth hitching it. Your strap idea wil work as well although in the past I found a water knot strong enough instead of a figure 8.

No problem with the whoopie replacing the stock line. With the whoopie, running it thru twice adds some mass. After going thru the channel once, repeat the process. Then run the adjustable side of whoopie thru the closed eye. Then cinch tight.

You can also use a short continous loop in place of the stock cord. Then attach your whoopie to the c.l.

I read somewhere that people have used surgical tubing in the ENO channel and ran the whoopie inside of the tube. The theory was that the tubing will stop the whoopie from stressing the hammock as much, but who knows if this is true.

Great idea...any ideas where a feller might pick some of this tubing up?

I don't know about a brick-n-mortar store, but I am sure a google search will turn something up.

It seems to be a common item for RC hobbiest, slingshot makers, and scuba divers. So if you have any place that does that near by I would check them out.

Another thing you could do with the tree straps is to sew a loop at one end of each strap. Then you can just feed the straight end through. If you don't sew, you can take the straps to just about any dry cleaners and ask them to do it. Most dry cleaners have someone who does alterations and really knows how to sew correctly. It would probably cost less than $10. You could bring a slap strap with you to show them what you want for sewing.
