    thanks fronkey

your link took me to just SD cards. i'm looking for one that has the preloaded maps so i can just pop it into my gps. i've been looking on ebay and found the SD with maps for and edge 800 for $53 which isn't bad.

Can you download those maps and add them to the card yourself or do you have to just buy the already pre-programmed cards?

It looks like you can buy either DVD's or preloaded cards. Pricey and you need a compatible GPS.

yeah...i'm logged into garmin reading their content and it appears i can do what you've noted. i use an edge 800 for mountain biking and thought it would be nice to use it while hiking and the maps would be slick not that i think i'd use it as i like paper better but there is information i'd like to gather from the trip.

the stuff i've looked hasn't noted a revision year, i've got 2008 - is there anything new? i don't think the topo has changed much but i'm wondering if there have been updates for campsites, trails, etc....
