Yeppers,,was on Balsam Mt. and Fri nite they had a total of 15 up there,,then Sat, I think it was 11,,Thurs nite was about 10..so very nice and quiet..next weekend they might fill as its the last weekend before they shut down on the 11th,,

Funny thing happened to us,,Bear Hunting Season is in,, at 5am in the morning on Sunday,,I wake up and hear a dog bawling as he is running a bear. He is way way down the mountain,,maybe 3-4 miles,,and I listen to him running for about 15 minutes..I shake the wife's tie out on her skeeter beater pro..and wake her and say lets get up,,we might see a bear as the dog is getting quite closer. The dog quits barking and she goes back to sleep not interested so I go back to sleep as well, At 6am,,I wake up,,and the wife is saying,,honey,,please tell me there is not a bear under our tarp with us..I look over and start laughing as a dog is licking her and trying to get into the hammock with her,,then she is saying "its a dog,,he has a tracking collar on". I finally get up and and tell her not to let the dog in the hammock but he kinda has her alittle pinned in the hammock..go over and move the dog on the ground,,so she says,,well,,lets make coffee as I am wide awake now,,and thanking god it wasn't a bear. We take the dog out,,feed him a couple of hot dogs and watch the sun rise to a beauitiful mountain morning with light glaze of ice dotted with tiny specks of snow in it on places here and there..have the camp fire going..camp host,,and later on,,the Park Ranger,,hear's the whole story with a good laugh..just thought you might like this story to a great ending weekend of car camping in the mountains in our hammocks as there is never a dull moment on a camping trip.

We called the owners of the dog as the phone number was on the dogs collar and it was some of the Cherokees that live below the park in Cherokee that where bear hunting that nite that lost him and they came up and got him about a hour after we called them. He was a nice young walker just as friendly as could be.

Here is a few more pics showing the leaves changing and after this last weekend of light snow and alittle coating of ice they will really start turning fast. The elk have moved all along the Balsam Mt. Road all the way to the campgrounds at 5300ft..so you can occasionally catch them even in the road moving from grass to woods. Hope you enjoy these few pics.

Wow that is one super pink under quilt.

Thanks for the trip and gear report. It looks like you had a great time.

Great to hear all the gear you tested gave you some good positive feedback.
You look as snug as a bug in a rug....snuggled into that campsite.
