I only started hammocking late last year. The majority of my hammocking experience in the field was during the months when it was cold enough not to worry with flying bugs. I've been working on some bug netting solutions but have yet to use one in the field. I'm going to make a bug sock so I need to figure out a ridgeline. Due to my lack of zing-it, I was going to make an adjustable ridgeline out of amsteel; basically a big whoopie sling. The issue for me comes with how to attach this to my hammock. I have DIY gathered end hammocks 'W' whipped per Just Jeff with whoopies that have the fixed eye larksheaded just behind the whipping on each end. I would assume I would larkshead the fixed eye of the ridgeline whoopie between the suspension whoopie and the whipping (to keep the end of the ridgeline from slipping), but if I larkshead the adjustable loop to the other end of the hammock, it defeats the adjustable purpose. I guess once I get the right length of the RL down, it won't matter because I can make both ends fixed eyes, but I was just wondering how others have handled this. I've also considered a SLS but I haven't seen an option that didn't require knots or structural toggles. Pictures of how you have your structural ridgeline attached would be great.
