I have a spray-paint version of plasti-dip that I picked up at Home Depot. ( in the spray-paint aisle)

The dip version always dries out before I end up using more than 1/4th of it.

    Glad they work!

No need to go through all that trouble for little ol' me (between mule tape and great advice, you've already done plenty for me in the year that I've been a member of this forum). However it would be helpful if you had some guess-timated specs on the plastic links (size, width of opening, thickness of the plastic & whatnot). Just best guesses, of course--no need to dig around for the calipers.
The cost is minimal... not a big deal..

The chain I used isn't ideal, as it has a break in the side so they can be disconnected.

It's about 1.25-1.5" long and about 1/2"-3/4" wide. I'll take a look when I get home.

I don't have them in front of me but the links are about 1 to 1.5" long. They are about the size of decorative chain used to hold a chandelier. They are plastic so with enuf force you could bend them, but they are thick enuf they dont bend easily. I bought the largest plastic buttons Walmart had about 1.25". I will measure for you tonight and see how close my guesses are.

Thanks guys! That was exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Gonna have to grab 8-10 links, some spray plasti-dip (which will ensure that just about everything I own will have at least part of it coated in plastic (the Missus won't be too pleased, but since all the sharp objects in the house will most likely be coated in plastic I'm not overly concerned )), and raid the sewing cabinet for old trench coat buttons.
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
