Yes, let us know how you like it after testing. Bindibagi's interrupted hem seam method is what I'll use on the next one I make. Much simpler than my original button hole technique.

i just leave about 1/2'' of the hem unstiched. this leaves a nice opening for the shock cord to enter the hem.
No problem. Let us know how things come out.

Going to be starting my first DIY hammock. Just wanted to say thank you to Knotty and others for the clear instructions (well we'll see how clear when I actually start construction!). Thanks for sharing. -J
Great thread gonna put this into my hammock
I just made one of these. Used 1.9 ripstop from Seattle Fabrics. I did the interrupted side hem as noted in previous posts, but left just a quarter inch gap. Threaded in 30 inches of 1/8" elastic cord and finished far end with figure 8 knot and a plastic cord end to keep knot from pulling into the channel. End towards the middle got a figure 8 knot and cord lock.
I got the cord ends and locks at cord-lock.com. P885 cord end. PK225 cord lock.
Looks like it should work great. Thanks, Knotty, and everyone else.
Weismann,
I like your choice of materials. It should be very comfortable.
I finally test my first DIY hammock Friday night and it slept fantastic. The only problem was I woke up a couple of times to find the foot end of my TQ hanging out slightly. I stumbled across this mod and tried it out and it works perfect. Thanks to all who contributed to this.
Aim for the moon, if you miss, at least you will still be among the stars.
Finally worked my way down my project list to the Knotty Mod. I knew about this handy mod but just now read through this whole thread. I'll be adding this to existing hammocks but I really like the interrupted hem seam. Definitely using that on future builds. It's pretty amazing how we can crowd source our R&D to help everyone hang more comfortably. Thanks to all for the inspiration!
