Sym or Asym? That is the question...

I just bought a brand new Expedition 2.5 off Craigslist for $75. I didn't realize it wasn't Asym. What I cannot tell from Hennessy site is whether the non-asym can be slept in flat on a diagonal or not.

The second part is, the present October sale has Asyms for $79, but they're yellow and blue. I prefer the dark green and am tempted by camo (if I DIY it will be camo if at all possible). I weigh in at 220, 5'10" and am thinking the Explorer Deluxe Asym at $119 might be better in the long haul, room for gear in there with me.

I'll be motorcycling so the weight is not an issue. Would I be able to lay flatter in the asym and therefor be more comfortable? I'm a side sleeper and flip back a forth a couple times a night on my SelectComfort bed. I'm thinking the Explorer's larger size would be a plus.

I've never slept in a hammock and have't put this one up yet to test it (working two jobs keeps me hopping). I probably won't use it until Spring, and may sew my own (sewed Frostline kits back in the 70's) yet this winter. I don't know enough to choose wisely and seek your advise. I'm guessing if I do buy a new Hennessy I can eBay it for what I put into it at least if it stays new, next Spring, so don't mind investing a bit now for the savings.

I have the old 2.5 symmetrical and love it. however I only weigh 180 and 5'10. I feel if I was any bigger I'd be uncomforatble. I think you would be more comfortable with the larger Explorer. btw..if you decide to sell the Expedition, let me know : )

I just sent an email to Hennessy for the Explorer Deluxe if they've any left. I'll let you know if/when the 2.5 is available.

Can you lay diagonally for flatness in the 2.5?

I just got notice from HH today that my hammock, hex camo fly and skins are shipping! I'd thought I'd missed out as they'd taken my card by phone but later an email said they were all gone. Now today I'm happily anticipating the new hammock.

I couldn't resist and hung up the 2.5 and within a minute of light swaying looking up at the nearly bare golden leaves of the maples in my yard, I'd almost fallen asleep! No one warned me how dangerous these things are to waking consciousness! Good thing we can't hang while driving. There should be a warning on the bag somewhere. Dangerously comfortable.

Can't wait for the Explorer asym to show up!
