I find a little humor in the fact that the member "Pellet Gun" started this thread

No offense meant OP.

To stay on track If I have a firearm with me I would hang it off the ridgeline in the head end of hammock. I like the ridgeline because I can slide it behind my head to hide it while sleeping.

Brandon should get a design award for his gear loft. I'd use that spot for some of my lighter handguns.

Since you mentioned it, 2QZQ, that's 2Questions for those that don't know, has Peak Bags. They help in the storage part of the OP's question. Great for all small gear like the pistolas.

Wow, it's cool that works for you. I can't help but feel like someone's trying to peel my hammock out from under me if I put anything heavier than my iPhone in my Eno pouch.

Most times I carry a Ruger P90. I want my gun close at hand if I every need it. With that in mind I have tried suspending it from from the ridge line in a holster. But I kept banging my head and also don't like the idea of it being visible to prying eyes. A peak bag didn't work out either because it also banged my head occasionally plus it was some what clumsy to retrieve the gun if needed. Since I am a back and side sleeper my solution is to stow it in a very ultralight fanny type pack around my waist. The pouch is slid around to the front. It doesn't bother me sleeping and if I were to need my gun I can draw it with very little movement.
