    NX-250 w/Z-liner - good with topquilts?

I know Clark assumes that sleeping bags will be used in its hammocks, and the Z-liner insulation system is probably designed with that in mind.

So, is the Z-liner effective with topquilt users? Because the insulation is not continuous, is there the potential for cold spots?

Personally I don't care for the z-liner. The foot end has great coverage, but I don't find the pocket stuffers to be warm enough. That's just my opinion though. My buddy Loose Nut can use the z-liner with a thermarest zpad in the 20s. Also the Z-liner is too heavy and bulkier for my taste. When it's on the Clark it packs up huge like a Walmart sleeping bag.

As for the issue of sleeping bag vs top quilt, it really doesn't matter because the sleeping bag is useless between you and the hammock anyway. I use a sleeping bag now, only because I like having the hood and the option when I go to ground camping with the family. The top quilt would be just fine with a z-liner.

I know I'm ringing in a little late. Southpaw is right, foot end is great, but I don't like the pack size of the complete kit. I've had it to around 40F with a TQ and was comfortable, but I personally couldn't go much past that. In the 30s I use a 3/4 UQ and carry the triangle foot piece. Hope that helps.
