Backpacking Trip around Harpers Ferry, WV

I am wanting to go out and do some packing sometime around the beginning or middle of December. Anyone interested? I was thinking we could do PenMar to Harpers Ferry or something like that. We could hang around a shelter so if we needed to use it or if anyone wanted to say in a shelter they could. There is one shelter that I know of that has a stove in it. That could be nice if there is snow at that time. What ya all think?

I might be able to tag along. Only problem is that I won't know until last minute if I can for sure as December is going to be busy. So don't count me in totally.

I'd go ( ben, my, doggie, says woof= heck yea he'd go.) But I cannot in Dec. I'd like to hike that area some more. We had such a great time at MAHHA and the pre hike. Maybe next year.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

    Dec 10th and 11th

Let's say we go out on Saturday and back on Sunday. We can set shuttle or just go out and back. If we have a few that can go on that date I'll write up the details. We might have snow on the ground by that time Let me know and i'll keep checking back.

I'll post the details tomorrow and am open for suggestions. I think we have three people interested. Let me know if anyone else would like to go. I know there is a hang in southern WV this same weekend but I am trying to stay close to home. I would love to get down to the Cranberry sometime though.

Trip Detials: Harpers Ferry, WV Dec 10-11

    When: Dec. 10-11th
Time: we can meet sometime in the morning maybe around 10am at the trail head. This would be off of VA rt. 9 at Keys Gap.
Where: Hike from Keys Gap to David Lesser Shelter (about 3 miles).
    Link: David Lesser Shelter
You can get the map and mapquest directions from this site.

We can take our time getting to the shelter. This shelter is very nice if you have never been to it. I have been but never camped here. We can set up camp and day hike from here or just hang out.

My goal for this trip is to just get out into the woods and try out some of my winter gear. I am getting a new tarp this weekend and have a winter underquilt that has never seen cold temperatures.

PM me if you are wanting to go and I'll get a list going. Hope to see you on the trial
