I have made hammocks that are 9', 10' and 11'.. I love my 11'-er... It's a bit heavier than I want for backpacking, but it's really comfortable. The only downside to the length, it it makes Triangle Thingies a necessity!

I just whipped up a new hammock with 1.1oz ripstop I got from DIYgearsupply.
It's nothing fancy. Just hemmed the edges and whipped the ends.
I'm 6'5" and have previously used hammocks that were uncomfortably short so as an experiment I made this one extra long. Unhemmed, the fabric is 12' long.
I will most likely trim this down at some point but I just wanted to see what it was like. You can always trim fabric but you can't add it back!
I was just curious whether a hammock can be too long purely from a comfort perspective. I realize that there are other issues like tarp coverage to worry about when using a long hammock but is there a point when a hammock becomes uncomfortable due to its length?
I don't know. I have a 12' piece of fabric that I used for a hammock. I don't see the problem with it being that long, except tarp coverage. I use a Guidegear 12x12, so that isn't much of a problem.
I agree with you. I have a 12' DIY that's 60 inches wide. I'd like one 72 inches wide (then I might go down to 11')
These folks fabricsupplier seem to have quite a few colors of 66", 68" and 72" wide ripstop nylon. (Some is waterproof. Be sure you know what you're ordering!) I'd like to get me some for an extra wide hammock too!

The problem is that all of their wider stuff is 1.1 oz. Not sure I want to risk that. My other thought is to make a double layer hammock with three pieces of 60 inch wide (almost 180 inches halved would make an almost 90 inch wide hammock). I just bought some too. It arrived in the mail today! Really nice thin and black. I got 20yards of 72" wide. That should be enough for a few DIY hammocks as well as some other goodies. It does seem really light weight so I'm not sure if I'll go one layer or two. The thought of just one layer makes me nervous. Next time I'm on the computer I'll look up that sellers info and pass it along.
