I was born and raised a southerner from Alabama, I'm an ex-Air Force guy (10 years) and served during the first Gulf War. I was a Boy Scout, but never made Eagle (dumb me). I lived in four different countries, but I will never love them as much as I do the USA. I am a network/computer geek, but love the outdoors. I am an Assistant Scoutmaster for a Boy Scout troop in Wisconsin. I am a father of two and a husband of one, forever.
I've been a camper since I was 5 years old, but it had always been in tents. About three years ago I was looking for light weight gear to begin a serious backpacking trips when I ran across Sean 'Shug' Emery's YouTube videos. The way he described hanging looked fun, light and comfortable. So I had to give it a try.
Last winter I took my hammock out on a winter survival scouting weekend and stayed cozy warm in -10 degree weather with heavy snow. In August, I took my hammock to Isle Royal and spent 7 days, hiking 40 miles, and my back never hurt one bit.
I'm completely hooked. Hang me in a tree and call me done.
