    TQ Length?

Have a question for the folks who have made their own TQ's.

I've asked for 4 yards of Climashield Apex and some 1.1 oz ripstop for Christmas next weekand based on the packages that have been deliverred to our porch it appears that Mrs. Clause has come through.

Shortly after Christmas I'm planning on converting part of the ripstop and insulation into a TQ and the remainder to a 'close to full length as possible' UQ. The TQ will be gathered at the foot to form the footbox rather than having a sewn-in circular or rectangular foot box.

That said, is there any general rule for deciding your TQ length? I'm 5' 8" (68 inches) and like to be able to tuck my TQ in over and around my shoulders. I'm thinking a 72" (finished length) TQ would be plenty and would leave me with enough material to make a full length UQ as well.

    Thoughts?

With a climashield TQ the end gather will eat about 6-7 inches of length. Add that to your shoulder height then add 2 inches for the seam alounces and you should have your length to start cutting fabric at. Add about an inch each direction to get the length to cut the climashield at.

Not trying to hijack a thread but does this same rule apply for down TQ too? Looking to start my down project after the holidays so am curious.

Down should not take up quite as much but I have only down one down TQ with draw cord end. And you would not need as much seam allowance for the hems in a down quilt as you need for the turn in the Climashield.

I have made 2 top quilts and you need at least 10 inches above your height to be comfortable. 1st one I made to narrow 47", second one to short 75". This one I'm working on now should be good. I'm 5' 11" and this quilt will be 54" x 81" tapered to 44" at the foot. I hope the 3ed times is a charm.

Thanks y'all. Since I only have 4 yards of climashield to work with and its going to be a one-shot deal I've got make sure I have things planned out right before I break out the scissors. Mrs. Clause will be royally pissed if I have to tell her I need to order another 3 yards of climashield
