I believe the point was to give a respectful response to a members question. No members that I've had the pleasure of meeting and hanging with is going to judge another for trying to get by with what you have. Like he said Grandma Gatewood did do it so yeah its feaseable. To the OP, Just use whatever works for you and get out and enjoy the outdoors. We'll be here if we can be of any help.

    Used something similar

I've used something very similar several times for both a hammock tarp and ground tarp. I use the little larger throw-away cheap vinyl table cloths. I also use these for a ground cloth under the hammock or tarp when on the ground. They are after all disposable so I don't expect to get more than one use but often get 3-4 trips out of one. I save them instead of throwing them away after church functions-so I can't beat the price. Sorry no pictures but try them for yourself and give us your own report.

I use a small pebble collected from the camp site in the corners and tie my very light line around the pebble and material to tie them off. My staple is a light DIY tarp that works great but love trying out new gear when I see something that I think might work.

The long table covers have actually crossed my mind to throw over the hammock ridge line for additional warmth...the lined ones. I have a few, but haven't tried them yet.

Thanks for the Grandma Gatewood reminder. That made me think of Colin Fletcher's extensive writing on tarps and Visqueen in "The Complete Walker". That is worth a bit of review in this context.

Not his fault. WOO Spends a lot of time at White Blaze, that's how they answer posts there: By starting an argument, even (as happens OFTEN) if the argument has nothing to do with the original post.

In answer to the OP's post, I did it one time last winter, but as a secondary tarp under my leaking blue tarp, till I could replace it. I use a 16' X 12' brown "Blue tarp" as my winter shelter at home in winter. The shower curtain did just enough to stop the drips.
I think a shower curtain would be fun to use, get one with a real weird pattern on it for one of the car camping hangouts.
