    New Hammocker from Southern Michigan

I've been car camping with the family since I was very young. As I'm getting older, I've been realizing how special those times have become. I also enjoy getting out into the woods. I've also found that I enjoy it much more the lighter my pack gets. I have two young boys, a wife, and a somewhat demanding (but not very high paying) job, so my time and money are fairly limited.

Nonetheless, I have managed to put together a fairly complete set of gear for myself, including a beginner's hammock I picked up from REI and a very basic tarp that I made out of 3m window insulation that works surprisingly well.. I've never slept well on the ground, so it was a no-brainer for me to get into a hammock. I tend to be a stomach sleeper, though, so I'll be looking into my options.

I'm from Lansing originally, lived in E.R. for a bit as well. Welcome aboard neighbor! Tons of great people on here as well as great info. This place's real bread and butter I think is the info sharing on DIY projects, though I'm just trying to get into it myself, I'm sure it'll give me more satisfaction and maybe an aneurism. With price in mind vs. creativity I'm sure you'll be able to make/mod anything you find you need.

Also got a good recon here for deals (haven't paid full price for anything but my TQ).

You should definitely check out some of the Michigan Hangs and get to know some other hangers and see some new gear and ideas.

Glad to have you on the forums
