    Weird!
I thought the same thing until I heard several others also had problems. I find it pretty odd that about 5 of us have reported issues on this. That seems a bit high for just an error. The other oddity is that it seems that we saw the problems develop within a very short period of time.

I have taken out the Version 2 once so far, and no rope issues. I decided I would leave the rope on to see if it will hold up or not. And I will also be comparing the two different ropes to see if they are different, but I am sure CheifHammockOfficer could tell us.

The ropes on my skeeter-beeter are fine... The ropes on the ATHH went sount real quick. I posted pics of the two. They appear to be different ropes. I wonder if the manufacturer made a switch and figured what the hey.... no one will know.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

See, that's the thing. When I talked to CHO on the phone, he told me the only changes were the # of tieouts, and the coating issues that have been discussed before. He made it very clear, and he has been seemingly straightforward about the issues with the product so far. Also, I find it hard to believe that they would knowingly give out product to be tested that has this issue. I am sure I will be able to tell by looking, and I'll probabaly post photos comparing the two tonight...

Don't misunderstand me. I am no way suggesting CHO knew anything about the ropes issue. In fact I am a little surprised he hasn't chimed in on this. But then the product in question was pulled from the market for non-safety reasons, so it could very well be a non issue.

I hung in mine for about an hour yesterday evening...I have since ditched the stock loop and hook aswell. I made a dynema loop and have ring buckles on it now. I am heading to the yard shortly for another photo shoot and some hang time. I'll be using the new harbor freight straps I picked up this morning.

I decided to give the stock hook and rope a try b4 replacing. After 15-20 minutes of a very relaxing hang in the backyard, I heard a !SPROING! and the Hammock shifted. I double checked and triple checked the hook and rope before hanging, making sure the rope was in no way kinked or looped funny, as I had already seen this thread and was forewarned. My rope looked just like RamblinRev's when I started, and just like Narwhalin's after the failure, with the fray and how it was through the hook. I don't know how the rope shifted on the hook, but it did. At least I didn't hit the ground!

    attaching to rings

I was looking at the picture in post 36 by Alex.... I would like to do something like this to attach SMC rings. It looks like the rope was a double rope that is tied in the hammocK? Is this correct? What kind of knot was used and is it tied inside the hammock? What length of cord was used?
