    Tying Up Loose Ends

I was putting my tarp away today (after a wonderful night with my new 20* Phoenix) and was puzzling over a better way to deal with my extra Zing-it line. I previously kept a skein of about 12 feet of line on one end for the big trees we get on the coast. I had the idea to use a tube I have with a lid (it is actually a 'preform' that is used for making water bottles, they blast them into shape with hot air). I poke a hole in the lid and feed the line in. It works great. I store my extra line inside and use it when needed kind of in the same way one uses a bishop's bag on their hammock.

Added benefits include keeping the line dry and untangled, the tube makes it easier to feed the line through branches, and as a cool plus the little tube once loaded with line has enough weight to make it ideal for throwing Zing-it line to get it over higher branches when needed.

I was given my preform by a fellow Ranger, so I don't know where you would find one. But once you found a source I'm sure they'd be quite cheap.http://www.chemcogroup.com/preforms/...FQuEpAodxk4sfA

I was thinking "gosh, what a great idea, but how do we get those?" But, then I realized that empty pill bottles and such will work just as well.

    Pill Bottles (Great Idea)

Assuming you can get them open I think pill bottles would work good too. The benefit of the preforms is that they are nearly indestructible. The downside is they are hard to find and a little heavy if you're a gram weenie. I only use one for one of my two ridgeline ends (my thought there is that it is rare you will locate where there are two huge trees).

I bet those squirt tubes would work too (lighter weight and they would bend instead of break). AHE has them for $1.50 http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/a...s/show/1134927

I bet you could feed the Zing-it through the squirt part. A 4oz bottle would likely fit enough line for the throwline for your bearbag.

Amazing all the things you can do with Zing-it!

Used to do some gold prospecting and thought of these. http://www.goldfeverprospecting.com/clplgovi1ou5.html

These are cheap and easy to find.

    Great Idea

Great idea Bryan! Prospector bottles seem more rugged and they come in different sizes too! And cheap!

Saw something very similar to the gold vials in Hobby Lobby yesterday. Don't remember which department, I prowl them all while thinking outside the box. Great idea.

Know any homebrewers? White Labs yeast comes in them.

I love this idea better than the preforms because it looks like it is probably more easy to find, and it is more environmentally courteous as it is repurposing whereas preforms are usually not,

They look like the right shape too.

    Thanks for the idea!

They look like these. I have some but never carry them too heavy:
