Using a Sleeping Bag as a tube

I couldn't find what I was looking for in the search functions, I am sure someone has done this, I have a -30 degree LLBean sleeping bag it is huge for me but is really cozy and warm, I have had no problems sleeping in 20 degrees with it and a pad under. I was thinking of putting a hole in the foot end and using it like a tube to get rid of a pad . Before I damage the bag I was wondering if anyone has had any luck using a bag as an all around under and top quilt. I was thinking of using some velcro on the botton part to keep it from falling on the ground . The bag weighs 4 lbs and does not pack really small but to get rid of a pad would be worth it to take backpacking

Sure has and it can keep you pretty toasty too.

Here is the first part of a little series of videos on how to do the pea pod.

I just did it last week. Seen here, and about a year ago, seen here. I prefer the way I did it last week to the other method. Tho' I probably could zip it up its a little too confining when you do. I'm thinking of making a wedge shape that will zip in over the middle to fill the gap, but we'll see. I've got too many projects going right now.
    Good luck,

I am planning on doing the exact same thing! Going to experiment on a cheappy walmart bag and if happy with the results will do a good bag. Will let you know how it goes.

I have a northface sleeping bag with 2 zipper pulls, I am able to unzip a hole at the foot end and thread my nano 7 hammock though it. (No bag modifications needed)

20 degree bag and I slept down to about 30 like that. Was not as comfortable as my underquilts because I could not lay on the diagonal, but it worked.
