    WBBB Hammock Modifications

Other than whoopie-slings; are there any other modifications that may be considered for a D.I.Y project to improve your WB hammock? I keep looking at that double layer and feel that it has such great potential. I've made a ridgeline organizer and would like to continue to adding to it.

I, too, am interested in seeing how some folks created a detachable ridgeline on the blackbird.

I made a detachable ridge line for my BB so I didn't have the line in my face when sitting in it like a chair. I think it is also more comfortable as a chair without the ridge line.

I've been meaning to do the same. My plan is to make a length of amsteel with two fixed loop about 10 inches long and another length of amsteel with two fixed loops around 89 inches long. The shorter piece would go through one end, the longer piece through the other end and then I'd connect the two free ends with a Dutch ridgeline biner. Total length should end up 100". Eventually I'll get around to making one.

I made mine out of Zing it. I did one long length with two fixed eyes, one of those goes out the foot end and connects to the suspension. I made a continuous loop that sticks out the head end and connects to the suspension. Then I made a nacrabiner that connects the two loops.
The reason for the continuous loop is that I can clip a small light up above my head and it doesn't slide to the middle of my hammock.
I also removed the line locks on the tie out shock cord. I used the fixed eye on the shock cord to girth hitch onto the rings on the hammock and I attach my stake to the cord using a clove hitch. All tweaks to trim the comfortable but heavy'ish rig.

Finally got around to doing my SRL mod. What I did was take a long length of amsteel and made a fixed eye on one end of it that goes out to the suspension and an adjustable loop similar to a soft shackle loop seen here on the other end.

I then took a short length of amsteel and made a fixed eye on one end that goes out to the other suspension and then I spliced in a short piece of amsteel on the other end of it and made a diamond knot. It ends up looking like this but with a fixed eye and it's a bit longer.

Then I simply connected the long line to the short line putting the loop from the long line over the diamond knot on the short line.

I just spent 1 nite (last night, indoors) in a borrowed Blackbird so I don't have much experience to draw on - but -
One mod I think I would make is to move the side pullout on the side opposite the shelf to the hammock body (below the zipper) rather than attached to the bug netting. That way, you could throw back the netting and still tie out the left side of the hammock.

I just got mine but along with the whoopies and some dutch ware, I added a RL organizer from Wilderness Logics, an ASR where I then had Stuart at whoopie slings make me a 7" double fixed extension I doubled over and then clipped a dutch ridgeline biner for "couch mode". Gonna do some whipping to control the adjustable slack on the ASR (little slide action). All ideas borrowed from the greats of hammocking.

** Im with ya on the side tie out idea. I think its more beneficial on the netting but would be nice onthe the body too. Maybe a grosgrain loop on the body and a shockcord soft shackle for when attaching the bug net...??
