    Material strength?

My wife's birthday is around the corner and I want to make her a hammock. She just joined the forum today (Mokey Fraggle) and is finally getting in the hammock groove. She's roughly 140, what weight material would be best?

Something like 1.1 or 1.7? I have a ton of a 1.9ish sport nylon, but the lighter stuff feels soooo much better.

    Thanks in advance.

1.1 would be more than strong enough, I hang with my wife in 1.1 from time to time for a nap. Together we are just a bit under 350 pounds, we get stretch but it holds fine.

So would it work for me at 280? I thought it was too weak. Perhaps that was more of a "comfort" rating than strength?

Correct, strength wise you will find it pretty good, but you will get a lot of stretch with 1.1
At about 180 I am OK with a single layer of 1.1 to sleep in, but I can tell a big difference with any extra weight, and the difference versus 2 layers of 1.1. Some folks like the feel of a bit of stretch some don't.

Rick, I love the 1.5 that Scott has. I find it a good compromise for about anyone.

I'm 180 and it is perfect for me but will hold much more. But it's soft and gives enough to be comfortable for lighter folks.

Unless your lady likes blue or something... I find a lot of people prefer colors besides the usual woodsy ones.

+ 1 on the 1.5 foliage grey that Scott sells at www.diygearsupply.com

I sleep comfortably in it at nearly 200#

I'm 210# and Scott's 1.1 has held me up in a Single layer just fine, though it's a little stretchy.

Given the weight difference between 1.1 and 1.5, I'd let her pick her favorite color...
