    home depot string.

Has anyone done anything with the twine? They have for tie downs outside by the contractor pickup area. I had a bunch left over from a purchase and was thinking about using it for tarp tie downs. Seems to hold really strong and comes undone easy. It does fray and cut easy but hey its free. Thoughts questions comments on this material?

the braided twine is better than the rolled stuff which is probably what you have. but it holds like a tank up until theres a lot of water on it.

It works, as long as you have a tensioner on it. It stretches when wet, is all.

If you have the twisted stuff and it ravels when you cut it, then use a lighter to "cut" it; when the lighter melts it, pull that part apart. It'll keep the line from raveling.

I've been using the braided mason's line on my tarps since 2007.

Are you talking about the big box of rope they have for tying things to the roof of your car? That type of rope is a pain to work with. Doesn't hold knots well and it's bulky. The cheapest option for practical tarp tie outs is, like Cannibal notes, braided mason line.

I have a 10,000 ft box I use for odd jobs like trash or tarps on the pool parts for the winter. It's strong but tangles easily and is hard to untie even with slip knots. I keep some in the car for emergencies and use it to tie up trash. I do not think it is suitable for anything where you need to keep untying it.
