    I Get Finally It

Was able to go out a put up the hammock today for the first time. Was only out for a few hours, but I finally get what all this is about. I swear I heard music in the trees and maybe even a Whooo Buddy way off in the distance. Was out with another noob and we had a great time. Neither of us have the gear to do an overnight till it warms up, but it was tempting to stay out there in the woods.
I will definitely be spending a tremendous amount of time out and about now. Thanks for all the answers, and now I can attend a group hang sometime.

Welcome aboard to you and your friend. First try a few overnighters in your backyard. Use a SB for your insulation and maybe a pad until you get cold weather gear. At worst, you get cold and go inside for the night. At best you hear the music all the time and wake up and have breakfast in the hammock, then run to the store for your cold weather gear.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I'm working on an underquilt now myself. I didn't think I'd ever want to go in the cold weather, but I'm not waiting till it warms up.(even if it means I have to go without a camping buddy)
    It'll be alright Friday!

Understand the need NOT to be out in the cold. I got my rig to use at events where I would be sleeping in a tent and just got tired of waking up stiff and sore, not to mention getting someone the size of a house into a small, 2 person tent. It just wasn't working out.

A pad will get you good and low in the temps and around here lately, that's mid winter save the only time we had a winter hang 2 weeks ago, when it was down into the teens with 30 mph winds. But it was dang near 50 this morning, heck if I didn't have work this week it would pretty much be spring time camping.

I just reread the title, I shouldn't type when tired, its supposed to read "I finally get it". I have a ccf pad and an old heavy sleeping bag, they're too awkward to carry and I need a bigger pack to fit everything in. I have close to twenty trees around the house, but they are all too far apart to hang from. Will get some more practice in the coming weeks. May have to car hammock camp to get all the gear out to do an overnighter very soon.

That's the first signs of addiction. Your tired but too excited not to be here. Hey, you can combine your car camping with your trees tonight. just park 18 or so feet away from your trees and strap up to the tree and the car. With all the trees, you can have a different hang every weekend or so. Just remember to look up ^ to make sure you have no widowmakers above you.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
