That looked like so much fun. Since I started hammock camping, I've wanted to hang in the snow, just not below 15F. Happy birthday, MM. Thank you for sharing the video.

Thanks to all for the BD wishes.
Always shouting out to you Shug! Like many I've studied and re-studied your vids to learn the tips and tricks for making it in the cold.
Bruciehi5 just re-watched your vid of the park hammock and street sign just to here your awesome accent! Do all Aussies have your sense of humor? and no the pod won't replace a tarp-a pod is just insulation-I think you mean the hammock sock-they do a good job in that kind of weather. Mac and I think 4-dog have canvas socks which do well when the temps are weeeeeellllll below freezing and breath better than nylon, though I had hardly any condensation even after 10 hours inside....this could like up in thought to BlazeAways condensation at the ends of his pod. On the MacIX Hammock Sock Mac built in openings on each end where the suspension exits-this allows for some air (you decide how much when attaching the sock) to circulate through and minimizing the inside snow storm in the morning.
Thanks Mbiraman-I'm guessing you are in the same age group.
Ice was right, we missed the day but really enjoyed the night hike in-felt safer night hiking on Roan versus the Smokies thinking no bear or boar in his right mind would be headed to RHK in that weather-only goofy hikers!

Righto! Canvas socks are the thing to have in extremely low temps, as they are windproof and highly vapor permeable.

I made FourDog's personal canvas sock... it was his idea to make the Molly Mac Gear hammock sock in canvas, for extreme cold.

I agree with BlazeAway, and do not recommend using an insulated hammock sock below freezing. An uninsulated nylon or canvas sock does very well at blocking wind and allowing vapor to pass. As you say, breath condensation is controlled by ventilating, and shakes off easily in the morning. Condensation underneath you is what you want to avoid at all costs.

Sure wish Thing1 and I could have made it. Winter arrived just in time, and likely won't be back until next season!

Awfully pretty there, MedicineMan. Looked a wee bit chilly, though.

Those old (or at least old-style) externals sure are great when you have to over pack, aren't they? It was an hoot watching Poof carry her own volume in gear. That's one tough lady.

    Happy (belated) birthday!
