    DIY underquilt attaching?

I have my fabric/insulation on my quilting frame, Since I have never seen an underquilt. How do you attach it to your hammock, Thought I might ought to find out before I bind it.

Many folks use shockcord. One method is to attach a length about 60" (depending on the UQ and hammock length) to the corners of each end forming a loop. Then using a mini biner/mitten hook/s-hook to attach the shockcord to the hammock end.

Another method is to sew grosgrain channels to the sides of the UQ. Then one long length of shockcord goes thru the channels and ties together. You then have two loops of cord to attach to the hammock.

This isn't a great pic, but it does show the method mentioned.

I used 4 strips of 1/2" strip of grosgrain sewn at intervals along the hammock edge and stitched 10" strands of shock cord (repurposed from an old tent) to the UQ body at similar points then tied them to the hammock edge. I made one UQ from a 1st generation top quilt folded and stitched on half and one UQ from new with channels stuffed with scraps of insulation (Climashield XP) saved from quilt projects. The two combined for a very cozy sleep. The ends of each UQ had a tensioner stitched in also to prevent CBS blowing in.
Happy Trails to one and all.

Here's a good video going over underquilts and you also get a great look at suspension.

I make channels in the edge of the quilt, then put a 4 foot section of shock cord hook in each side, tied to two 4 foot sections of zing it for the sides. This is then hooked into a soft shackle at each end. The shock cord I use will stretch double. This seems to keep the inner shell nice and tight against the hammock with out adjusting it for my hammocks. The under quilts do have a differential cut.

I also put a two foot piece in the head and foot ends to adjust at that part.

Got that from one of MAD777 post.

Seems to work best if the quilt can slide on the suspension, if you fasten the suspension to the corners of the quilt you will spend lots of time adjusting it. If it slides on the bungees you can reach out and reposition it while laying in the hammock.
