    Questions about DIY tarps

I can't help it. I guess I just got sucked in by all the videos. I'm thinking about trying my hand at constructing a DIY winter tarp. I've gone over a couple of designs in my head and on paper, but here's my idea. I want to build a tarp with built in Gris-beak,sides that reach pretty close to the ground and a roll up feature for the Gris-beaks and either of the tarp sides for sitting in the hammock at camp. I think I got most of the Biggs worked out with all the roll up design, but I'm not sure about the angles on the Gris-beaks. Also I'm not sure about over all length and if I made such a big tarp would it be too big when packed up or too heavy. The only thing I am sure of is that it will be warm. Any suggestions?

You da man Shug! You're a wealth of knowledge. this fits the design I dreamed up just fine. All i'll have to do is sew some hemmed tag pieces in the ridge seem for rolling up one side for lounging and sew flaps on the ends for Grizz beaks.

Just for clarity, what you are calling Grizz Beaks, when made as part of the tarp, are simply referred to as doors.

You can estimate the weight of the tarp by calculating the square yardage of material that will be used and adding in a little for and grosgrain, d-rings, etc that you may use. Remember that fabric weights are given for square yards, while the fabric is sold in lineal yards.
