I've had an Amsteel sling larksheaded into a strap, and I think it is a tear waiting to happen. For fractions of a gram cost I could and should have cushioning sleeves around the Amsteel, or on the strap where the Amsteel chokes it.
Not to take this concern to exrtemes, I am more concerned about the catastrophic failure of the strap due to tearing than I am about wearing on just one point of the Amsteel, which is very tough and slippery stuff.
Well I got the Dutch whoopie set up. Tree > hugger > whoopie > Amsteel loop > WBBB.
It took me about 10 min to change out the suspension after viewing WaterMonkies video. Thanks WM.
I have not tried it out yet, but I did weigh it. Stock setup in the stock sack was 25.9 oz. post Dutch 23.0 oz. I don't see how changing the RL is going to take another 2.9 oz off the weight of my setup.
My initial impression is that it is going to be supper easy to set this up. Now off to the trees!
Line on strap wear was also a concern of mine. My WBBB was set up with whoopies and an amsteel nacrabiner to connect the whoopie to the tree straps. It was a bit of a hassle to set up as it required both hands to work the nacrabiner. The amsteel on the strap + the weight in the hammock + motion = rapid wear. Went with carabiners from WL to make it a one handed attachment and a good night's sleep.
