A video of my newly finished underquilt.

This video is just showing the details and looks of my DIY underquilt I just finished. In its stuff sack, it comes in at 17.7 oz, but it is fairly large and has massive loft. It is 53" x 44" x ~4.5". The baffles were only 2.5" but there is some serious loft going on with the 900 fp down.

    Thanks for watching!

how much did it cost you to make? Me and a mate are looking at doing a DIY UQ, were both still in high school but have acces to sewing machines at school.
Lastly are sewn through baffles a stupid idea?

Well total material cost was around $150. This is quite expensive and a comparable UQ could easily be built for less. The majority of that cost came from 1. 900 fp down and 2. momentum 90 material. I would say by using standard ripstop and 850 fp down you could take a good $50 or more of of that price.

As far as the sewn through baffles go, I would say ultimately it depends on the temps you are going to be using the UQ in. Generally though they really are kind of pointless when you could just do real baffles. I have no actual experience with sewn through, but would guesstimate that you could be fine with a sewn through down to maybe 65* F. Beyond that I would stick to real baffles. Just think, real baffles only take one extra line of stitching per baffle compared to sewn though baffles but offer much more warmth.

Yeah, I honestly wasn't expecting to make a quilt this big! I really wanted a good UQ for my AT thru hike but ended up with a winter quilt. I guess I'll find out how long I can use it for, though I may end up catching on fire in the summer months .
