Maybe, but I'd suggest that it is more nurture than nature; and at the beginning, a person could go either way while learning to become comfortable in a gathered end hammock

But, once the habit is formed, changing the body's notion of what is comfortable would be something else. It gets to expect what it is used to. Just like which side of the bed to climb in and out of and which side to sleep on.

So, if you think there might be a WBBB in your future, start hammocking with your shoulder and feet oriented for it. Or make an offer for mugs' mirror image version.

Are Dream Dangerbirds sided the same way as WB Blackbirds?

I think someone posted laying the Oz way (right to left) versus the US way of left to right and said it didn't make a difference in the DG....but that is my memory.
I've only slept in the DB US style per your nature/nuture theory of past conditioning; never thought to sleep the other way but when I think about it I can see no reason why not--as in I dont remember any design feature that would prohibit either or.

Is the Dangerbird symmetric, then? I was here for awhile only reading of and seeing pics of the WBBB before it occurred to me how sided it is.

Not a criticism, my liver and heart are sided, too. I'm sure that all WBBB users find pleasures equal to or greater than the ones they might have had if they could have sited their hammock differently.

I sleep lefty as it puts less pressure on my painful right shoulder... Sometimes nature dictates what works. I bought a WBBB, righty... never could get comfy. Built my own lefty and no issues... The WBBB is a great hammock, had I bought a custom-lefty I would have been fine...

Thanks Mike! I had a wonderful time at the Florida Hang. It would be wonderful to go back. I saw so many different ways of doing things. I’m continually amazed by the ingenuity and engineering that goes into backpacking and hammocking.

    Congratulations on your new hammock!

I hope you get it in time for your trip. I also recently purchased a dangerbird. I didn't really need another hammock, but I couldn't resist. I believe mine is number 35.

    You people are killing me

I have a WBBB, and though comfy I have always felt some oddness to how it lays. I would really like to lay right--> left but it just doesn't allow you to. I also wake up with a headache once in a while, but that's more related to my neck support, and thus completely my fault.

    But you have me interested.
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own

The DangerBird has a symmetic body and tie-outs. The net and overcover are asym and can be made either right or left lay.

I can lay right to left and left to right in the DB...but for me, and any hammock I get into, I always and prefer to lay head right, feet left.

When I first bought the WBBB I figured it did not matter which way I laid because I was suspended in air, and that the hammock would form to my body. So it did not matter (so I thought) and just bought what was in in stock.

Now after having owned and laid in several "non-directional" hammocks, I can say that for me, R-L is my preferred method. Hence the theory behind my first post.
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.

I also do the R to L -- I can't seem to rest comfortably unless I lay that way and after reading this post I noticed I even lay asymm r to L in my bed at home!
