Cut a slit in the middle and it makes a *great* emergency poncho. Not only keeps you dry, but warm as well. Use some cording to make a belt to keep it from billowing out.

One of these saved my *ss up in the Boundary Waters after I lost my rainjacket on a snag.

The sack for my sleeping bag has been working well as a holder for my shoes. It has a drawstring that goes from top to bottom. I run that over the ridgeline and then loop it back under the sack. When I get in I pull my shoes off and toss them in the sack. They stay nice and out of the way till I fish them out in the morning.

One I haven't seen listed above is my smartphone. It serves as either primary or secondary: phone, messenging, GPS, compass, topo map, geocache tool, camera, eBook reader, audio books, MP3 player, flashlight, planet/constellation mapper, radio, notebook, internet, distance/height measurements, level, weather/news...and probably much more.

    Oh yea, forgot mirror.

Tiny firesteel as a zip pull tab.
Gaffer tape round spare lighters is good tinder.
