Once you go cottage, you never go corporate again

    Last year's Noob kit-
    Hammock- ENO Doublenest
Suspension- ENO Slap Straps/Shug's Amsteel Whoopies
    Bottom Insulation- Thermarest Neo Air
    Top Insulation- Thermarest Ventra
    Tarps- DIY Tyvek

    Total Weight- 7.31 lbs
    2.3% of body weight

    Now
Hammock- Custom sized Papa Smurf Dream
Suspension- Papa Smurf Tree straps/Shug's Amsteel whoopies
Bottom Insulation- My custom down design from Turtle UQ’s
Top Insulation- My custom down design from Underground UQ’s
    Tarp- Wilderness Logic Big Daddy

    Total Weight – 4.15 lbs
    1.4 % of body weight

    Weight reduction 3.16 lbs

    I'm lighter, warmer and poorer.

All of the vendors have been easy to work with and priced fairly.

    I'm a Noob no more!

Good job, and looks like you are much more comfortable, and that is what is important. Having a lighter pack helps you to enjoy your hike so much more.

I hope to no longer be a noob soon too.

Currently WBBB 1.7 single, whoopie sling and Dutch hook suspension, thermarest prolite, mountain hardwear sleeping bag, no tarp. In the process of completing my rig with tarp UQ and OQ. Cant wait!

Nicely done! Actually, it's interesting I saw this because I just wrote an post on whether hammock kits are lighter than tent kits. One of my solutions is similar to yours: piece together your own kit.

    It does save weight!
