    The TurtleDog stand

You don't really need those long whoopies and that long bar. If you simply hang on a small continuous loop at each end of the hammock, the bar can also be shorten by 3'-4'. This will lift you up off the ground significantly.

^ Mike's right. I hang in my 10' stand every day just fine just as he says, on dogbones or loops. The only real reason for a longer ridge pole is to accommodate a tarp or a bridge or something.

Can anyone tell me how heavy duty the S-hooks need to be? I bought some pretty beefy ones that are rated at 400 lbs. I will have to file out the hole in the hinge for it to fit. The next size down are 145 lbs which would be a better fit....would they be enough?

Would the little locking biners found at the hardware store be better?

I did buy the closed loop eye bolts so I know they're good to go.

    Re: The TurtleDog stand

I like over kill... But if you have to file away too much it defeats the point of over building the s hook just to have a weak hinge... The 145 would probably work though assuming your under 290 lbs...

If you mean quick links, yes they will work fine. Be sure to close the gate.

The S hooks will probably be fine too like Brute says.

I opened up the hole on some hinges with a drill though. Either way...

Please accept my application for membership in the HFs Turtledog Club. Pictured is a Ridgerunner hammock with an MacCat Deluxe tarp which much to my surprise provided ample coverage. I'm using 6' 6" legs and three 5' sections of metal fencing. When using gathered end hammocks I will reduce it to two five ' sections. It's solid as a rock even at fifteen feet. Very happy with it. Thanks to all that made this happen.

    Re: The TurtleDog stand

OK hopefully someone will answer quickly, what is the pole for exactly and what does it have to be made of? Metal, PVC? Thanks in the process of buying stuff at lowes right now
