I thought I might give everyone a field (actually "house") report on this stand. I have gone full time in my hammock as of about three weeks ago and have been using this stand inside. It works like a dream! When I get into my hammock I don't even think about it being in a stand any more... I just climb in and enjoy the hammocky goodness.

I will be shifting over to a different hammock (my big mayan hammock) that requires a ginormous stand and I'm hoping to get that stand done and dialed in this weekend. But until I do... I'm in no hurry because I can sleep soundly using my other hammocks and the TurtleDog stand.

    I love this stand!

Congradulations Dave, welcome to the fulltimers club. Came to Virginia in a rental and couldn't get my stand in the car. Spent last night on a motel bad. Not a misspell, that's how I felt this AM. Hanging tonight in the G-daughters yard. 50 degrees, Whoobuddy!

Will do... I'm hoping that the rain is done for a while so I can work on it outside (it would be nice if the mosquitoes and yellow flies would take a break too). I will have to dial it in outside so I will be setting it up outside between trees using rope (that should be interesting). I'll fire off some pics if I survive

I hear ya on that one. I was just on a trip to the Keys and I slept in beds that I knew, in theory, were reasonably comfortable but I was in so much pain it was almost literally torture. It is nice sleeping in my hammock in the house but I am really looking forward to sleeping in the mayan hammock (it is huuuuuuuuuuuuge). If my BB is like a single/twin mattress then my mayan is a California King. It is so comfortable it makes me want to cry

My daughter isn't much of a camper, and it's not likely she'll be a full timer, but she is waiting anxiously for her birthday present... a big mayan like mine (I'm also going to DIY one for camping). She has loved that big hammock since I bought it when she was little (she loves to lay in it on the back porch and read) and now she will have her own. I'm making her some straps and whoopie slings this weekend.

The HappyTurtleDog stand with top mounted pole

    The title says it all...

I had an epiphany this morning thinking about the people that are trying to use a tarp with this stand. Why not mount the pole on top of the tripod? You could do the hppyfnygy mod to the top but also cut a notch in the top that will cradle the pole between the two inner poles and cut the outer pole so that it will have the metal pole resting on it (so all three of the tripod poles carry some weight).

You might need a slightly longer pole and you will need to attach your hammock using a wrap like I do. You would need to cut your pole so that it is 8 inches (or so) wider than your tarp. Then your pole can have the tarp over it, it won't touch your tripods, the tarp will help hold your cross pole in place when you aren't in your hammock... and life is good!

Does that make sense? If people here think it makes sense then I will need to cross post this to the original turtlelady stand thread for further feedback.

This is going to be my first DIY project from this wonderful website - Just a quick question: My ranger only has the six foot bed and I want to make sure that I can fit it in lengthwise.

Do you guys think a 12 foot top-rail will be long enough to hang my singlnest from?
