My grandfather and namesake made his living with a junk yard before they were auto-recycling plants, so I take exception. Supply and demand. There is no demand for seat-belts in or from cars and trucks: They never wear out. As we proponents of these commodities note: Find the most beat-up vehicle, and the seat-belts will likely be in fine condition, (washable spilled coffee and ketchup stains allowed.)

I've been to three auto-recyclers. Two of them offered me scissors or box-cutters, and pointed me to the available vehicles. One warned me about nesting-yellow jackets. I haven't even had to pay a premium to get an assortment of colors. Know how light the original VW Golf was? I've got belting from one. And dark maroon belting from an early Monte Carlo.

Our auto-salvage yards are really good about prices and such. Was just there yesterday to get some specialized clamps for my Chrysler. We found them, took them off ourselves, and got a bunch of extras at only .50 each. The Chrysler dealer wanted $5 a piece. While there I was curious about the seat belts, didn't get any, but they said they'd just charge .75 for each length of belt removed. $2 for an air bag. I was wondering how an airbag would work as a critter bag...that is why I asked.

    So +1 on salvage yards

My area is a bit weird too.
If you go to a "you pull it" place, then you can get stuff cheap by talking to people. But if you call around, they will usually look stuff up on the computer and then quote you prices that are not as good as if you went to get it yourself.

I suspect they weren't mentioned because they don't list seatbelt webbing.

well, i can hardly belive it! after reading all the replys i started to think that in addition to the webing i should also have two of the plates that the auto makers use to attach belts to the floor. this would allow me to easyly bolt on the straps. fast foward to yesterday....working on the motorcycle in my garage. rummaging around for a fitting that i was sure i had bought a few years ago--i stumbled across a brand new aircraft seat belt assembly, including torso belting!!! forgotten they were even there! all the parts i would need, including hardware!!! kinda a shame to use them ,considering the price i payed for them, but can't spend money for something i already have on hand....thanks to all

You know, if you had the buckle from the old middle seats it would work to adjust like the rings, but would fit the seat belts pretty well.

Don't go looking for seat belts around here though.
They are $20 a pop, even at the U Pull It place.

yeah, i'm at a loss for why the large difference in prices, last time i was in need ofa junkyard part there were none that allowed a person to "pick" or is it" pluck"? i suspect that it's a liability thing.

no real need to "take offence", demostix. we grew up with the name "junkyard" and it's an honorable trade/name. yes, something can be way over priced and the seller can still be honorable! when i use the word autorecycler" i think of an industrial plant that chews up cars and the peices are separated and shiped to the approiate place(s)...no pretence of pulling off parts to be used as ome replacement parts
