    Brown Hollow, Hoosier National

Animal Control and I had a great overnighter in Brown Hollow last night. The temps got down to below 60. My underquilt made of a synthetic sleeping bag did well after I got it tightened up a bit. The Bear Mountain Bridge with the widening mod was really comfy. I really like it better now that it's 35 inches between the rings. My new 13 x 14 Cat tarp made by Brian was awesome. I now see where I will need to put a couple more pullouts on the sides to make it pitch in smaller places.
Animal Control is a great guy and knowledgeable on so many topics. A terrific campfire orator, though we didn't light a fire after all.
We had a good time and left on very short notice indeed, which is how I like it.
Brown Hollow is just a wild seldom-seen place where we could have a hang one of these days. Only an hour in from a really nice parking area.

Looks like a very pretty place, Mule. Can you pinpoint where you were on a map for those of us who don't know where it is?

That is a freaking huge tarp. You can barely see the hammock underneath it.. Thanks for the report Mule.

Take 135 South from 46 just E of the entrance to Brown County State Park. When you get to the turn where the Story Inn is, leave 135 and follow Elkinsville Road around many turns to the Nebo Ridge parking lot. Hike out of the parking lot East following the trail about a half hour. When you see two trees with red rings painted around them on the right of the trail you are about 5 minutes from the turn to the left down into Brown Hollow. The small side trail is on the left. The marker is about 30 feet from the main trail. You are half way to the hollow. Take this small trail down about a half hour till you reach the creek. Brown hollow goes for a mile or so either way form the Y in the creek there. Someday we should have a hang around there somewhere. Mule

    Mule,

How'd the area treat you? A buddy and I are heading to HNF - Pate Hollow just to the west of Brown Hollow in a couple of weeks.

It was beautiful. Very few mosquitoes, lots of horse flys. They loved our tarps and stuff made out of sil, but didn't try to bite. No water. We found a small pool full of minnows, water spiders and water bugs that we filtered. I am not sure I have been to Pate Hollow. Tell me more. We go to Browning Hill once every year, and to Will Hayes Branch too. Mule
