Silnylon newb tarp option for $20

I get asked a lot about tarps and while I think it's always better to order from one of the terrific vendors on HF, I would be remiss without mentioning this.

This is a silnylon tent footprint that's roughly 9 feet 6 inches x 9 feet 6 inches. I got one and used it as a tarp for my daughter's hammock, turned it diagonally and it worked great. It only has pull outs at the four corners, but for $20, you can rig something (like a contact lens case screwed into the fabric with a pull cord in the top). It's not tremendously light, but at 23 oz., it's not exactly a bowling ball either.

Makes a good option for a NewB who doesn't want to spend too much or for a backup that's not a cheap blue poly tarp.

I believe these are actually PU (polyurethane) footprints/tarps, thus the weight, but still a good bang for your buck.

Like diva said these are pu coated... However, still a great option as a cheap tarp if your new to this... my friend uses one and is happy with it.

I thought the same thing when I ordered one ... thought even if it was, it was a good deal. It's a coated taffeta material. I called it silnylon because that's what it feels like (coated on one side, not the other). Turns out it's a 68D polyester. It's not silnylon, but it is very similar.

Dutch sells clips that will work on tarps without tide downs or grommets that wont hurt the waterproofing.

Would it be difficult to sew on additional tabs for this tarp? Is there anything I'd have to do besides finding some narrow webbing and sewing it on the edges?
    Thanks!

That does look like a good deal for the cost. It should be easy to sew on some tabs if needed. I assume that the diagonal length would be between 12' and 13' feet. That would make a nice diamond tarp.
