I believe that the coated is a thicker base nylon. The impregnated is normally 1.1 oz/sq yd nylon that has been impregnated with silicon. This normally brings the weight up to 1.3 oz/sq yd. It looks like the coated is 70D nylon as the base which is 2.8oz/sq yd. I'm not sure how much the weight increases for the coating.

I was under the impression that 70D is 1.9oz/yd^2 base and coating usually brings it up to ~2.3 oz/yd^2.

That's 70Dx100D, which is a heavier fabric than 70D. If you look at 1.9oz/yd^2 fabric on the same page, it is referred to as 70D.

2nds are fine. Usually cosmetic blems, almost never performance issues. Remember that the retailer wants you to be satisfied. 'Sides, in two or three uses it's going to be 2nds anyway.

Thanks, and Apis, have you used the 2nds before. Just wondering how cosmetically blemished it tends to be,

Many of us have used DIY Gears 2nds. I have bought the 1.1 grey twice. I haven't heard of anyone finding a reason for it to be called 2nds.

You will be happy with it.
