I had to remind myself what had really happened in this thread, because I slipped into the thinking that there was some sort of dialogue going on. LostinSpace started us off with a post that was long on enthusiasm and short on detail. Then a number of responses quoted parts of his original post. By the end of page one it sort of felt like he was adamantly repeating his assertions in the face of numerous questions and calls to produce something more substantial. "Okay, you're excited. Now go make one and post some pictures for us," etc. In fact, he hasn't posted again, and may, in fact, have gone off to work on his hammock. I (patiently) await developments.

One way sure way to find out if this idea has lasting merit it to run it by us. You will not get a more thorough, honest evaluation than the users and DIYers on HF.

Look at what Hangnout and Medicine Man have done with the latest hammock sock idea. It's pretty clear that the hammock community can support several vendors. Like Jerry said, many folks can't/aren't willing to make their own. For the DIYers in the bunch like myself, I copy, but I'm not interested in creating a business for myself. I have the utmost respect for the innovators in our midst who constantly think outside the box.

Let's see what you have come up with.

Well I haven't made it yet but I am working on it. I will post picks and a video when it is done. Of course some will like it, some will not. As I said before, I'm not banking on making a living making hammocks so I guess it doesn't matter if it's copied.
I'm betting that when you see it you will like it though. I call it the "Adirondack"

Right. The patent thing was something I should have not mentioned.

I have found with the diagonal lay that my blanket and pillow almost always end up on the ground or hanging off in the dirt. And also that one side of the hammock flops around loosely while the other side is tighter than a guitar string. With my new design there will be no need for the diagonal lay. Think Adirondack chair.

The Adirondack chair/hammock makes me think of WV's lateral hammock suspension. Sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing what you've come up with. Field testing will be definitive in deciding if it is marketable or just a really cool idea.

If you move that much in your hammock, an integrated bugnet would prevent things from falling out.

I'd post a pic but I'm on my phone.
